Khandala

Famously referenced in the Bollywood song ‘Ati Kya Khandala?’ the hill town is located amidst the western slopes of the Sahyadri or the Western Ghats mountain range. Located at an elevation of 550 meters above sea level, Khandala is one of the most frequented hill stations in India due to its close proximity to Mumbai and Pune. While the origin of Khandala is shadowy, it was said to have been under the rule of the Maratha Empire under Chattrapati Shivaji and later was annexed by the British who defeated the second Maratha Empire under the Peshwa kings.

Lonavala

Lonavala is located in the Pune district of the state of Maharashtra and is a popular hill station for the people of Mumbai and Pune. The hill town is placed at an elevation of 624 meters above sea level and is known for its relatively milder climate amidst the Western Ghats. The word Lonavala literally translates to ‘A Resting Place Carved with Stone’ and is widely popular during the rainy season and lush green hills of the Sahayadri range. Lonavala is also famous for its produce of an Indian hard candy made from groundnuts and jaggery known in the common tongue as Chikki.

Mahabaleshwar

Mahabaleshwar or “God of Great Power” is located in the Satara district of Maharashtra which is almost 230 kilometres away from Mumbai. This hill station is also a popular tourist destination in Maharashtra. It comprises of myriad chalets, lodges and manors since the British Raj era. Bereft of the rainy season which varies from late June to mid-September, this hill station is an epitome during the course of the year. Pratapgarh fort is a major tourist attraction of Mahabaleshwar. Honey, jams and chikkis (a ready to eat Indian sweet made from groundnut and jaggery primarily, in Hindi) are gorged over here. The pristine Venna Lake provides opportunities for fishing, boating and pony riding. Other than that, Christmas is celebrated with great pomp and show at the Venna Lake. It also has great strawberry fields in the region.

Malshej Ghat

Malshej Ghat is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range in Maharashtra. This place is famous for its different kinds of flora and fauna. The variety of birds found here will leave the viewer spell bound. Malshej Ghat has innumerable things to keep the visitors busy. For people who are into adventure, trekking is an option; the nature lovers find themselves immersed in absorbing the beauty of flora and fauna while the bird enthusiasts will have a busy time drooling over the pink flamingoes that are spotted throughout the place during the winters. It is a perfect place to visit if you are looking for a break from the busy life of the city.

Chikhaldara

The scent of coffee enchants you as you enter the hill station city of Chikhaldara in the state of Maharashtra. Being the only coffee growing area in the region, Chikhaldara also boasts of beautiful lakes, breathtaking panoramic viewpoints and exotic wildlife.

At an altitude of 1118 m, Chikhaldara is one of the most favourite summer retreats among the nearby and far. It has a large number of attractions to offer and is mostly one of the best places to visit if you are in search of time to be one with nature.

Panhala

Panhala is a city and a Hill station Municipal Council 18 km northwest of Kolhapur, in Kolhapur district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Panhala is the smallest city in Maharashtra and being a Municipal Council the city is developing rapidly.

Toranmal

Toranmal is a Hill Station in the municipal council of the Nandurbar district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. One can reach through Shahada. It is a hill station located in the Satpura Range. Its Gorakhnath Temple is the site of a Yatra attended by thousands of devotees on Mahashivratri.
